Advantages and disadvantages of solar energy
With the growing need to reduce carbon emissions, many people are turning to alternative energy sources that replace traditional fossil fuels. Solar energy is the energy produced by solar radiation. Solar panels are installed on the roof to harness the sun's energy.
Disadvantages of solar energy:
Cost: The initial cost of installing solar panels is very high. Solar technology is constantly changing and the most expensive solar systems are being introduced on the market.
Expensive energy storage: Solar energy must be stored in large batteries for use at night. Buying batteries to store energy during the day is very expensive.
Hazardous materials: Solar energy consists of hazardous materials used to make solar photovoltaics. Dealing with these materials and their impact on the environment is very difficult.
Weather dependence: Solar energy can only be generated when the sun is shining. No energy is produced at night, which interrupts the energy supply.
Big Space needed: Large utility-scale PV systems require a lot of land to install about 3.5 to 10 acres per megawatt of solar panels. This leads to land degradation and sometimes habitat loss for wildlife in the area.
Related pollution: The transportation and installation of solar panels contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Gas is less polluting than other energy sources.
Scarce materials: In solar energy production using photovoltaic technology, some of the materials that contribute to production may be rare. These rare materials are byproducts of other processes. Not All roofs installed: Not all houses are eligible for rooftop solar. Installing solar panels on SLATE or cedar-shingled roofs is also difficult and costly.
Moving isn't ideal: It takes about seven years for a solar investment to generate income, and if you move frequently, a solar system won't be a worthwhile investment.
Quality installers: Quality local installers are hard to come by, and buying the right solar system can be confusing.
Advantages of solar energy:
Sustainable: Solar energy is a sustainable energy source compared to fossil fuels, which have an expiration date. About 73,000 terawatts of solar energy hit the Earth's surface every day.
Environmental change: Solar energy is environmentally friendly compared to fossil fuels. Greenhouse gas emissions are irrelevant because no fuel needs to be burned.
Reduce greenhouse gases: Solar energy reduces greenhouse gas emissions, making it a preferred alternative to fossil fuels.
Energy independence: When the sun shines, every country has the opportunity to produce energy and thus become energy independent. Solar panels installed on individual homesteads provide electricity that does not need to be connected to the grid.
Renewable energy: Solar energy is a renewable energy source that can be used any day worldwide. As long as there is sunlight, it will not run out of solar energy.
